Nauvoo and Carthage

Our last stop before heading home was on Wednesday June 30th. We woke up and went straight to Nauvoo. We weren't quite sure what to see there, but after walking around the temple, we went to the visitors center and they needed 3 people to jump on a wagon tour. That ended up being the most convenient way to see Nauvoo with Paisley. She enjoyed the ride and we got to see a lot of the history with a tour guide. After the wagon ride we went and saw Joseph Smith Sr.'s, Lucy Mack Smith's, Joseph Smith Jr.'s, and Emma Smith's graves. It was an incredible experience to be in a city the pioneers established. After Nauvoo we headed to Carthage to see the jail. That was such an emotional experience of gratitude as well as sadness. We skipped the movie and toured the house, but Paisley did not like any of it. The people in our tour group were so kind even though Paisley was trying to interrupt any spirit that was there. I am so grateful we could do that as a family and experience the history of the church first hand. We got to Indianapolis at about 10:30 that night and by 11:30 hadn't found a hotel that was affordable or non smoking so we made an executive decision to drink lots of caffeine and drive to Pittsburgh. Paisley slept the whole way and we got home at 5:30 on July 1st.

An awesome bridge we crossed from Iowa to Illinois.

Your pictures are gorgeous. Funny.....you were in Nauvoo when you were 13 months old and you haven't been back since. So glad you could go there. I am sure it made a profound impression on you. You guys are quite the travelers.

I didn't know you guys went to Nauvoo this summer too! Wow, you've been all over the place. Isn't it awesome? We used to go to Nauvoo every summer growing up. There's a very cool spirit there.

Great to see you today! I'm glad we're both back in town together :)
